Vitamin C plays a role in the absorption of plant-based iron. It is a water-soluble vitamin and is found in fruits and vegetables including bell peppers, broccoli, kale, and spinach. The recommended intake of vitamin C for women is 75 mg and a man is 90 mg.

Zinc is required by the body to make DNA for cell division. The best source of zinc is meat and seafood. The recommended daily allowance of zinc in women is 8mg and man is 11 mg.

1.Strengthens The Immune System:

Both zinc and vitamin C can boost the immune system and fight inflammation. Many over-the-counter prescriptions and natural remedies contain zinc in them. Vitamin C encourages the production of white blood cells in the body that keep the body protected against any infection. People with pneumonia have low vitamin C levels and supplementing this vitamin shortens the recovery time. A review showed the role of zinc in reducing the duration of the common cold by up to 33%  Intake of zinc reduces the inflammatory markers and frequency of infection.

2.Protection Against Colds

Vitamin C may reduce the length and severity of a cold, but it doesn’t appear to prevent colds in most people, according to the National Center of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, part of the National Institutes of Health. The exception is marathon runners and other extreme exercisers, as well as people exposed to very cold weather, such as skiers. For these groups, taking 250 milligrams of vitamin C daily may reduce the chance of catching a cold by 50 percent, reports the NIH’s Office of Dietary Supplements. Studies show that using zinc lozenges within 24 hours of catching a cold can reduce the length and severity of cold symptoms.

3.Zinc Can Help Fight Acne:

Zinc promotes skin health and helps in the treatment of common skin condition i.e. acne. Zinc is favoured as a treatment option, as it is less expensive and has a lower risk of side effects.
Zinc Promotes Blood Sugar Control: Zinc plays a role in controlling the blood sugar levels by improving the body’s sensitivity to insulin. A study showed the effect of zinc supplement on enhancing the control of both long-term and short-term sugar control in people with diabetes. Research shows that zinc can reduce insulin resistance and improve the body’s ability to use insulin efficiently.

4.Eye Disease Protection

Zinc and vitamin C may prevent vision loss in older people by delaying the progression of age-related macular degeneration, or AMD. In one study reported by the Office of Dietary Supplements, high intakes of zinc and antioxidants, including vitamin C, reduced the risk of AMD in elderly people. In another study, taking zinc alone significantly reduced the risk of developing AMD in high-risk subjects, but not in other people. Additionally, studies show high intakes of vitamin C may protect against cataracts, although the ODS notes this association needs further study.

5.Vitamin C increases your iron absorption

Vitamin C-rich fruits such as goose berry has been reported to increase the bio-availability of iron from staple cereals and pulses. We know that iron’s main role is to increase the body’s ability to carry oxygen through the blood and deficiency can result in anaemia. Therefore, vitamin C is highly beneficial to this process
